Cut politicians’ pay to pay teachers

Winston Park

WITH reference to the possible retrenchment of thousands of teachers due to budget cuts, there is a solution.

Firstly, we must remember that teachers are integral, without them, education cannot take place. Without education there can be no socio-economic upliftment. Next to workers in the health-care sector, teachers are of vital importance.

How would it be if every politician took a 50% salary cut? They would still make more than the average Joe, and with their perks, would manage to live a very decent life. That money could then be channelled towards paying for the teachers.

Politicians across the board get paid over-inflated salaries for doing very little, so let us take that excess money and give it to those who actually do something and make a difference towards a more positive future.
