Effective leaders are those who serve

WITH just a few days to election day on November 1, I extend my appreciation and best wishes to all candidates who have put their names forward to represent and serve their communities. Service to others is a moral and righteous duty. Governance is about ethical management and the most effective leaders are those who are servant leaders.

I hope all registered voters exercise their democratic right and civic duty by voting in this election. Participation in the electoral process by voting is the most basic act of citizenship and responsibility as it supports democratic principles and functioning. Voting empowers citizens to elect new councillors and it brings about the required change needed to improve service delivery of municipal services. In addition, voting gives citizens an opportunity to become active and establish a more vigorous and strong civic energy.

The voting process can be confusing, especially for new voters, hence it is important to be educated on the voting process to ensure your vote is counted and not spoilt or invalid. All South Africans must vote according to their conscience. I pray to the Almighty to guide our incoming or potential councillors with strength, good health and guidance on the straight path. Everybody’s potential increases when we choose to honour and acknowledge one another’s success. May this election be conducted in a civil, truthful and transparent manner.
